OK, since I've seen this through two perspectives, and I don't want to go against everyone... The big question has been...
Should we have classes/jobs?
YES: NO:
Please don't just write a simple 'yes' or 'no,' that's why this isn't a poll topic. Write several reasons, and try and make it as convincing as possible. While there will still be a vote, whoever manages to stand their argument best will generally be more influencial in this case.
I'll vote at the end... Vote closes in two weeks!

Yes
1st reason: We can pick a variety of classes. Also we are able to join or unjoin. Our character would be able to learn different classes each time
2nd reason: All players would be able to create classes like assist, mage, knight, or other

...Don't count - I said to give several reasons to defend your argument... It's an empty yes. >_>

Classes a job's could give the RPG a cettain depth that could help things out, maybe have a list of skills that your characer could learn from each one, wather they be good/bad/okish...al depends, like for a Knight clas you could have Valor that they learn though training in the class, which would make them much more brave then usual...but can get them into a big mess if they are to into it and are trying to atack somehting/someone WAY bigger/stronger then himself/herself. and Thief could be another, but one would offten have to uurge to steal things, even from their own friends...things like that. IMO they could help out alot...

OK, THAT'S a Yes... You had some nice explanation to back it... Heh.
Anyways, just saying - the proposed replacement is natural traits - abilities from classes minus the class. Kinda' like how a White Mage learns Cure... Well, you learn Cure, but you don't have to be a White Mage.

The point is, without levelling up in classes, you could simply add the trait to your list, and while you start out basic, it grows later on. It's kinda' like how a mechanic may have something like piano for a hobby, and soon learns lots of music and such... It grows...
Elhaz's is more realistic in this case, but the classes system would add more depth to this in a different way...

I say no, but yes to the traits idea...
Mostly due to the fact that it would not be realistic to be only learning one or two sets of skills. As you progress in life (IRL as well), you learn a variety of different skills, which natural talent can sculpt into something great. Also, I'm pretty sure it would be bloody kickass to use a plasma saber, or cast a spell on a weapon... (Technology + Melee:Sword, and (Magic)+Melee:(Insert weapon here) respectively.) Having classes would just be too...shall we say, unrealistic. We CAN however, have guilds.
For example: The order of the Crimson Soul would be a guild dedicated to the more fighter-ish nature of battle, where as the Platinum Conclave would focus on protection over strength. There are many, many more, such as The Open Fist (Monk-ish), The Celestial Hand (Priest/Cleric/WM), and Dragonbrood (Dragoons, duh.), upon others.
This way, joining a guild will focus our talents into their respective practices. Some guilds will be related to others, and members can branch out to related guilds. Though it is not necissary to join a guild, doing so would improve certain abilities, but at the same time, decrease proficiency with others. Tutelage under a guild is voluntary, and those who do not join are often more balanced characters. Mages will be needing to join a guild unless they are Kami... Humans require access to ancient lore found only in hidden libraries, which are often held by the guilds. Though, there are rumors of Sorcerers roaming about, that are much like the ones from DnD... (Must be GM approved here.)
